Alife
Grey 'Alife' Fred Hampton Hoodie
DESCRIPTION
For the second straight year, Alife® celebrates Black History Month by releasing a series of six hoodies. Each hoodie features the names of prominent Black men and women that were pivotal to promoting African American civil rights, culture, and values in the United States.
The names, prominently displayed on the front of the hoodies, include Eldridge Cleaver, W.E.B. Du Bois, Medgar Evers, Fred Hampton, Assata Shakur, and Nina Simone. The straightforward design and bold font on the hoodies aims to draw attention to the power of the figures’ names and the movements that they championed.
Fred Hampton, originally from Maywood, Illinois, was an activist and revolutionary socialist who’s best remembered as chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, and the deputy chairman of the National Black Panther Party. Hampton’s involvement in the Black Panther Party, his ideals, and recognition made him a target and an alleged threat to the FBI. During a raid at his Chicago apartment in December, 1969, Hampton was shot and killed in his bed. His untimely death resulted in a civil lawsuit that was settled with the FBI paying $1.85 million to survivors and relatives of the incident. Many recognize his death as an assassination under the FBI’s COINTELPRO initiative.
The heather grey hooded sweatshirts are all made of a heavyweight, pre-shrunk 14 oz fleece, with the name screen printed on the chest, and ribbed cuffs and sides.
5% of proceeds from all Alife® sales from the month of February will go towards United Negro College Fund and Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
